Vittoria Spampinato is an academic radiologist and leader at Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, SC, a comprehensive academic health system serving South Carolina. In her dual role as the Vice Chair of Faculty Development and Neuroradiology Division Director, Vittoria’s mission is to advance neuroimaging services, to train the next generation of healthcare professionals, and to promote the academic advancement and well-being of the Radiology Faculty at MUSC.
Vittoria has been a faculty member of the MUSC Department of Radiology for 19 years. Her appointment as Vice Chair of Faculty Development empowers her to oversee the faculty development of a group of 55+ physician. Her objective is to provide mentorship and support, enabling faculty to excel as academic radiologists. Since assuming the role of Neuroradiology Division Director in 2013, Vittoria has led several adult and pediatric neuroimaging initiatives that have improved the quality and safety of patient care, optimized resource utilization, and standardized imaging protocols across the MUSC Healthcare system. Vittoria’s research contributions have yielded over 75 peer-reviewed publications. A dedicated educator, she has helped train over 110 radiology residents and 50 neuroradiology fellows, nine of whom are currently Radiology faculty at MUSC. Vittoria currently lives in Charleston, SC with her husband Doug and her teenage children Anna, Francesco & David.
