Riascos Roy

Dr. Roy Riascos is a distinguished neuroradiologist, educator, and innovator in the field of radiology. He earned his medical degree from Escuela Colombiana de Medicina in Bogotá, Colombia, in 1995 and completed his neuroradiology fellowship at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in 2005. Currently, he is a Professor with Tenure in the Departments of Radiology and Neurosurgery at McGovern Medical School, where he serves as Section Chief of Neuroradiology in the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Imaging. Additionally, he is the Director of the Center for Advanced Imaging Processing at Memorial Hermann Hospital System. 

Before joining McGovern Medical School, Dr. Riascos was a faculty member at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, where he played a key role in radiology education and curriculum development. His passion for medical education has led him to pioneer interactive teaching methods, particularly in integrating radiology and anatomy into medical school curricula. He is a mentor to medical students, residents, and fellows, emphasizing innovative learning tools to enhance retention and understanding. 

Dr. Riascos holds multiple board certifications, including a Certificate of Added Qualification in Neuroradiology from the American Board of Radiology. He is the president of Neuroradiological Society of Ibero-Latin America (SILAN) and an active member of several prestigious professional societies, such as RSNA and ASNR, where he has held leadership roles. His contributions extend to academic committees, program evaluations, and resident competency assessments. 

Recognized for his excellence in teaching and research, Dr. Riascos has received numerous awards, including the Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award at UTHealth Houston and the UT System Distinguished Teaching Professor Award. His educational exhibits and scholarly work have been widely acclaimed in national and international radiology conferences. 

Beyond his clinical and academic achievements, Dr. Riascos is dedicated to fostering collaborative learning environments and advancing the field of neuroradiology through cutting-edge imaging research and technology.
