Dr. Maja Franceschi is an Adjunct Professor of Radiology in the Department of Radiology at the Renaissance School of Medicine, SUNY Stony Brook, New York. She is also a Professor in the Department of Nuclear Medicine and Oncology at the Medical School, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University, Osijek, Croatia. Prior to joining the faculty at Stony Brook University Hospital in 2022, Dr. Franceschi served as Head of the Department of Nuclear Medicine at UHC Sestre Milosrdnice, Zagreb, Croatia. She was also a Nuclear Medicine Research Fellow in the Department of Radiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston. Since 2020, Dr. Franceschi has been the Head of the Collegium of Internal Medicine Sciences at the Croatian Academy of Medical Sciences.
Her clinical and research interests, as a Research Fellow at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts (1987–1988), focused on clinical studies using brain SPECT radiopharmaceuticals. As a Research Scientist at Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, New York (September 1992 – February 2000), she conducted human studies with various PET brain agents, including [11C] cocaine, a dopamine transporter radioligand, [11C] clorgyline, and [11C]L-deprenyl-D2 for measuring MAO A and B, respectively, as well as FDG PET brain studies. Her clinical and research interests include nuclear medicine applications in oncology and various ultrasound-guided interventions in oncology.
In addition to authoring more than 200 publications and abstracts, Dr. Franceschi is a co-author of eight academic books and has delivered numerous presentations and invited lectures at international meetings. She has served as the lead investigator for multiple international grants, including projects supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
