Benzinger Richard

Richard Benzinger, MD, PhD, is professor of anesthesiology at Washington University in St. Louis, and currently serves as Interim Vice Chair for Education in that department. He grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and he received his BS in biology from the California Institute of Technology in 1993.  He graduated from the University of Chicago with a PhD in neurobiology in 1998 and an MD in 2000. He joined Washington University as a resident in 2001, couples-matching with his wife Tammie, who is now the Hugh Wilson Professor of Radiology.  He has served as Chief Resident, the William Owens Research Fellow in Anesthesiology, and the residency program director from 2011 to 2018.  Clinically, his interests include anesthesia for liver transplantation, preoperative assessment, and remote anesthesia.
